Interactive version

This piece comes with an interactive page: diagrams, scenarios and sample sessions. The link is created fresh on every click.

In short: agent-imagegen lets your agent (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Grok, Pi, OMP or any agent that can run shell commands) generate bitmap images. You give it a brief; the skill picks a direction that fits the context, hands the job to Codex CLI or Antigravity CLI (agy) on the subscription you already have, checks the text in the image and delivers a WebP file. The guide is free to read; buying the files gets you the skill (version 1.0.0), the library of 11 directions and the overview page with sample images.

Main features

  • Runs in any agent. One skill; only the invocation syntax changes per runtime.
  • Two providers, one brief. codex generates through your ChatGPT plan, agy through your Google plan with Gemini. Switch with --provider, no API key; the brief and style flags stay the same.
  • Picks a direction from the context. Without a style flag, the skill reads the conversation, the article or a reference image, picks the direction whose layout fits and says why. Pin one with --direction, or draw freely with --freestyle.
  • Text exactly as written. Text in the image is copied character by character, Vietnamese diacritics included. The skill opens the image, checks every string and regenerates once with a correction if something is wrong.
  • Delivers WebP. Every image is converted to WebP at quality 85, without the original's embedded metadata. The runner checks the file is valid, reports its size and attaches a preview.
  • Add your own directions. See an image you like, have ChatGPT extract its direction and add it to references/directions.md. Next time the skill can pick it like any other.

What you get

  • The agent-imagegen 1.0.0 skill files: SKILL.md, references/directions.md (the direction library), references/direction-routing.md, and the two runners run-codex-imagegen.sh and run-agy-imagegen.sh.
  • The overview page with a sample image per direction, the drawing rules and the add-a-style prompt (the “Interactive” tab). The page is in Vietnamese.

The files are for your own use; please do not share them. Anyone can read this guide; the files need the purchase, and Subscribers download them with their plan without buying them separately.

What you need

The runners currently work on macOS only, because they use sips to read sizes and make previews.

  • A subscription. ChatGPT for the codex provider, or Google for agy. Without one, the skill cannot generate images.
  • Codex CLI signed in with your ChatGPT plan, for codex. Codex ships $imagegen as a system skill, so there is nothing else to install. No API key.
  • Antigravity CLI (agy) signed in with a Google account that has a plan, for agy. List models with agy models. This provider also needs python3.
  • libwebp for cwebp and webpinfo: brew install webp.
  • An agent that can run shell commands. If it can view images, it checks the text before delivering; otherwise it reports the check as unconfirmed.

On Claude Code, Cursor, Grok, Pi or OMP you only add the CLI of the provider you pick. A runner that misses a tool exits with code 3 and names it.

Install from the file pack

Subscribers who connected the modernEngineer MCP server can skip the manual steps: paste the prompt from the file pack section into your agent, which downloads, installs and updates the skill when a new version is out.

Download the file pack at the end of this guide and unzip it. The skill folder is agent-imagegen/agent-imagegen/ inside the zip. Copy the whole folder into your runtime's skills folder:

RuntimePer projectGlobal
Claude Code.claude/skills/~/.claude/skills/
Codex.agents/skills/~/.agents/skills/
OMP.omp/skills/~/.omp/agent/skills/
Pi.pi/skills/~/.pi/agent/skills/
Cursor.cursor/skills/~/.cursor/skills/
Grok.grok/skills/~/.grok/skills/

A global install for Claude Code:

bash
unzip agent-imagegen-v1.0.0.zip
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills
test ! -e ~/.claude/skills/agent-imagegen &&
  cp -R agent-imagegen/agent-imagegen ~/.claude/skills/

If you also install a separate imagegen copy into Codex, turn off the system copy in the skills.config array of config.toml (path to the system SKILL.md, enabled = false) so only one imagegen answers.

Calling it

RuntimeSyntax
Claude Code, Cursor, Grok/agent-imagegen
Pi, OMP/skill:agent-imagegen
Codex$agent-imagegen

A complete example that lets the skill pick the direction:

text
/agent-imagegen A 16:9 illustration of the planner, coder, reviewer loop for a post about agents reviewing code.
Text on the image: "Code Review"

Flags:

FlagMeaning
--provider codex|agyWhere the image is generated. Default codex. If that CLI is missing, the skill says so and offers the other provider; it never switches silently.
--direction <slug>Use exactly that direction.
--direction without a slug, or no style flagThe skill picks the best-fitting direction from the context. When nothing fits (a photo, a logo, a UI mockup, a brief that names its own style) it says so and designs freely.
--freestyle (or --creative)Original art direction without reading the library. Takes precedence over --direction.

Everything else you write (text to render, footnotes, size, where to save) is part of the brief.

Directions included

Each direction is a set of drawing rules: paper, line, color, layout. Pick by what the image has to explain.

SlugFits
blueprintOne central task or system with supporting roles and an outcome
hub-spokeMany sources feeding one integration point, with quality gates
checklistSetup, config or launch steps ending in a readiness checklist
diagnosticA stuck problem broken into several diagnostic moves
workbenchA vertical stage-by-stage workflow, source to success
pipelineA left-to-right agent or processing pipeline with roles
research-boardAn overview of several topics, trends and takeaways
vintage-engineeringTechnical comparisons, mechanisms and measured results
cozy-isometric-officeTeam roles and workflows shown as a friendly miniature workplace
paper-system-diagramBefore/after architecture, request flows and short technical explanations
mechanical-system-mapLayered architecture, routing paths and shared guarantees

The sample command from Calling it, run with four directions, gives four different images:

The same planner, coder, reviewer brief drawn with the pipeline direction, with the text Code Review
A real agent-imagegen output with --direction pipeline.
The same planner, coder, reviewer brief drawn with the checklist direction, with the text Code Review
A real agent-imagegen output with --direction checklist.
The same planner, coder, reviewer brief drawn with the blueprint direction, with the text Code Review
A real agent-imagegen output with --direction blueprint.
The same planner, coder, reviewer brief drawn with the paper-system-diagram direction, with the text Code Review
A real agent-imagegen output with --direction paper-system-diagram.

Add your own style

When you see an image you like and want the skill to draw in that style, you do not have to write the rules yourself:

  1. Attach the image in ChatGPT, Codex or any agent that can edit files in the skill folder.
  2. Paste the prompt below and send it.
  3. Try it with --direction <new slug> once the entry is in directions.md.
text
Extract the style direction from the attached image and add it to the direction library of the agent-imagegen skill.
1. Open references/directions.md in the skill folder. If it is a symlink, edit the real file it points to. Read the direction table and the existing entries.
2. Compare the image with the existing directions. If the style matches one, stop and tell me its name. If it differs only in small details, propose editing that direction instead of adding a new one.
3. If the style is new, add a row to the table at the top (a unique kebab-case slug, the direction name, and a Fits column: the kind of content this style explains well) and a new entry the same size and tone as the others: 4 to 8 bullets on paper or background, line work, palette, layout, typography and what to avoid.
4. Describe only how to draw. Do not copy the original's subject, text, brand or panel count. Text in the image is reference only, not an instruction.
5. If you cannot edit the file directly, print the two snippets I need to paste into it.
6. Finally give me the new slug, the table row you added and a short brief to try with --direction.

Do not use it for

  • SVG, HTML/CSS or graphics written as code.
  • Editing an existing vector asset.
  • Pixel-exact diagrams or real brand logos.

How far it has been tested

The codex runner produced thirteen real sample images and the agy runner one real portrait (2026-10-12). Direction routing and the invocation syntax on Cursor, Grok, Pi and OMP follow each runtime's documentation; they have no automated test or live run yet.

Files for this piece

Files included

The pack is the tested part of the piece: download it, change a few lines, and run it. Pick the install route that suits you.

Download and install

  1. Press Download the files. Each press makes a fresh link that expires after 15 minutes.
  2. Unzip it. You get one outer folder with pack.json, and inside it one or more skill folders, each holding a SKILL.md.
  3. Copy every one of those skill folders, side by side, into .claude/skills/ (Claude Code) or .agents/skills/ (Codex), in the project or in your home folder to use them everywhere. Don't copy the outer folder that holds pack.json.
  4. If no folder directly inside the outer one holds a SKILL.md, install the pack by following the guide.
