In short:
ak-coding-leveltakes a number from 0 to 5 and applies that level right away to the current session: 0 means you have never coded, 5 means expert. It tries to save the level throughak configfor later sessions; if the runtime cannot save it, it tells you plainly that it applies to this session only. The level does not change scope, correctness, tests or security, and the AI does not guess your level.

Summary
Use it when you want the AI to explain more deeply or more briefly to fit your experience: pick 0 if you are just starting out, or 4 if you want a tech lead's view. You do not need it when the way the AI talks already suits you: level 5 is the default behavior, the shortest and fastest.

| Concept | Question | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Levels 0 to 5 | How deep do you want the AI to explain? | /ak-coding-level 0 for someone who has never coded, /ak-coding-level 5 for an expert |
| Only the way it talks changes | Does a low level make the code worse? | At level 1, the AI explains why the code works and defines unfamiliar terms, but still delivers the full feature, tests and checks, just like level 5 |
| Saved for later sessions | Do you have to type it again next session? | On a runtime with a place to store preferences, the skill writes the level through ak config, then reads codingLevel back to make sure it was saved |
| Claude Code output styles | What if you want finer control in Claude Code? | Open /config and set Output style to coding-level-1-junior |
