In short:
ak-initreads what a marketing project already has (README, docs, brand, strategy), asks only what it cannot find on its own, then writes the context into the file that already holds each piece. When it is done, it suggests a marketing skill that fits your goal, or the product-discovery playbook inak-playif you have no product yet. It does not post, create accounts, or commit unless you ask.
Disclosure: I maintain AgentKit and have an affiliate relationship with it: the AgentKit link in this post is an affiliate link; buying through it gets you 30% off.
Summary
Use it when you start a new marketing project, bring a running project into AgentKit, or only have an idea and want it written down before you test the market. You do not need it if what you want is to post, commit, or create accounts: onboarding only writes docs, and those other actions must be stated in the prompt.

C --> E["Product-discovery playbook if there is no product yet"]
C --> F["Stop, context only"]It always checks 4 points:
| Point | Question | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Where the information lives | Which file in the project already holds this? | The brand voice is already in docs/brand-voice.md, so it edits that file instead of creating a new one |
| Gaps that matter | What can the repo not answer that would change the marketing direction? | The monthly budget is nowhere, so it asks. The exact follower count does not change a decision, so it records it as unknown |
| New or existing project | Does the marketing direction need building from scratch, or only the missing parts filled in? | The project already has positioning docs: it only updates the pricing that just changed. An empty project: it gathers enough to settle a direction |
| What it does not do on its own | Besides writing docs, what is it allowed to do? | No posting, no social media accounts, no contacting customers, no commits, no git repo unless you ask |
When it has to ask, it groups the questions into 5 areas instead of running a long interview, and it does not ask again about anything you already wrote in the prompt. It does not create a fixed set of files: the real paths are in the final report.
Sample prompt for a new project:
/ak-init Marketing project for <product name>, a booking app for hair salons.
Customers: small salon owners in <city>.
Goal: 200 salons on a trial within 3 months.
Constraints: only use the logo and colors in the assets/brand folder. This skill has no flags.
Below is the detailed version: the run flow, 4 situations with prompts, how to pass options when the skill has no flags, the change history by ak release, and common pitfalls. The detailed version and the interactive page are for subscribers. Your agent can also search them through the portal's MCP.
