In short:
ak-pricing-strategyhelps you decide what to charge for, how many tiers to offer, what each tier costs and how to raise prices. It works from the cost to serve, usage and margin targets you give it. When the data is not enough, it gives you a research or test plan instead of making up an "optimal price". It does not publish prices or change billing.

Summary
Use it when you need to set tiers, pick a billing unit, raise prices for existing customers, or choose between freemium and a free trial. You do not need it when you want to change prices in your system right away: publishing prices and changing billing is your job after you approve the proposal.

C --> E["You approve, then publish or change billing"]
D --> F["New data, run the skill again"]Four things to know to use it well:
| Concept | Question | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Observation, estimate, hypothesis | Does this number come from real data, or is it a guess? | Observation: 10% of accounts use 70% of storage (from your file). Estimate: storage cost per GB. Hypothesis: most customers will pick the middle tier. These three are always recorded separately. |
| Price must match cost and goals | Does this price lose money on the heaviest users? | Cost to serve is 3 USD per user per month and the target margin is 80%, so the floor price is 3 / (1 - 0.8) = 15 USD. The math is written out. If a number is missing, it says so and does not fill it in. |
| Every price change has a check | How do you know the new price is right or wrong? | Apply the new price to new customers first, then compare conversion rate, ARPU and churn with the old group. Without a check and metrics, the proposal is not done. |
| Who decides | What may the skill do, and what waits for you? | It may analyze data, propose a billing metric, tiers, prices and tests, and draft a rollout plan. Publishing prices, changing billing or moving customers to a new plan needs your explicit approval of the product, price and affected customers. Prices and constraints you have locked stay as they are. |
Cost to serve is only the floor, not the basis for the price: the price should sit between the price of the best alternative and the value customers perceive.
Sample prompt to set tiers and prices:
/ak-pricing-strategy Set tiers and prices for <product name>.
Data: cost to serve <X> USD per user/month, usage-by-account file at <file path>.
Goals: gross margin <Y%>, customer acquisition cost paid back within <Z> months.
Constraint: keep the existing free plan.
Done when: there is a tier table, the floor price math and a way to test with new customers. This skill has no flags. After the command, write the product or tier you want to discuss, for example /ak-pricing-strategy Pro plan of a project management app.
Below is the detailed version: the run flow, 5 situations with prompts (pricing tiers, choosing a billing metric, raising prices for existing customers, no willingness-to-pay data yet, freemium or free trial), how to write the input, the change history by ak release, and common pitfalls.
